Our nonwovens are used in a wide variety of special applications in the fields of Construction & Industry. The advantages of our materials are clear: They offer more flexibility in processing, as they are adaptable and drape well, while they offer high strength and durability at the same time. Additionally, their properties are modifiable and can be adapted to the individual requirements for any application.
Our technologies, the spunlace as well as the needlepunching process, allow us to produce high-performance nonwovens for industrial use and without adding chemical binders. Further functionalization by means of finishes as well as the combination with other fiber types or textile applications are also possible.
We process various synthetic and natural fibers with different diameters from microfiber to coarse fiber (e.g. flax) into durable, multifunctional nonwovens. The choice between the spunlace or the needlepunch process is strongly determined by the required properties of the final application. Our nonwovens can be modified by different fiber blends and structures, the weight, or various aftertreatment options. For example, they can become dirt- and water-repellent, or flame-retardant.

We use high-quality fibers and fiber blends with various diameters for our nonwovens – from microfiber to coarse fiber. In addition to thermoplastic fibers such as polyester (PET), polypropylene (PP), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and polyacrylonitrile (PAN), we process high-performance fibers such as meta- and para-aramides and polyimides (PI), regenerated fibers such as viscose and lyocell, as well as natural fibers such as flax, hemp, or cotton.
Our two process technologies, needlepunching and spunlacing, enable us to offer our customers a wide spectrum of area densities, from 30 g/m² to 1.000 g/m².
Depending on the application, a structure can increase the efficiency of a nonwoven. Various textures can be created with our waterjet process. The portfolio ranges from smooth, fine, coarse and extra-coarse perforations, to embossing with our Norafin 3D PERFORMANCE®.
We achieve good fiber distribution for special surface homogeneity with state-of-the-art carding technology.
Multilayer material concepts combine various functions in one product. We can achieve this either in a single process step by spunlacing or by coating and lamination.
Furthermore, the connection with different layers is possible (e.g. steel support layers or textile layers).
On our cutting machines, we can cut roll widths from 0.1 m to max. 2.4 m.
Likewise, packing of short rolls is possible.
We have the following in-house possibilities at our disposal for the finishing of our nonwovens:
The following properties can be achieved by professional finishing:
Norafin has been developing waterjet nonwovens from flax fibers since 2006 and has since been able to extend this knowledge to other animal and plant fibers (e.g. flax, sheep's wool) as well as to sustainable and biodegradable regenerated fibers (e.g. viscose, lyocell).
Our technologies allow us to process the natural fibers without adding chemical substances and to create high-performance nonwovens for industrial use. Further functionalization through ecological finishes as well as the combination with other fiber types or textile fabrics are possible.
When processing thermoplastic fibers, we pay attention to the increased use of recycled PET fibers from European reprocessing plants. Polylactide (PLA) fibers are also frequently used as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based fibers.
